Torsion Sonus

Materials:Torsion Balance (c. 1898), speaker driver, class-T digital amplifier, assorted weights

Torsion Sonus, is a sound sculpture inspired by the graceful beauty and mechanical function of the torsion balance: a scientific instrument used to measure weak forces by the effects on a system of twisted wires.
As the viewer places a weight on the unweighted scale of the balance, an electrical circuit, built into the balance, closes. Current starts to flow, triggering a sound score that is played through the speaker on the opposing scale.
