Floor van de Velde

Floor van de Velde (b. Antwerp, Belgium) is a practicing artist and educator. She has a background in sculpture, computational design, digital fabrication, and sound.

Her practice-based research explores the reciprocal relationship between art and technology.

She investigates how digital tools may give artists additional ways to engage in hybrid and interdisciplinary practices: melding methods of and means of production.

Floor uses digital fabrication tools to construct and experiment with machines that meld the hand and automation.  This makes visible the ways in which art and craft – the artist’s hand – and the machine may become collaborative partners in art making.

She received a BFA in Sculpture from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and a MS in Art, Culture, and Technology from MIT.
